Summary
Join Canva's Trust & Safety team as a Senior Backend Engineer and play a crucial role in developing and maintaining backend systems. You will design, develop, and maintain backend systems for content classification, review, and enforcement, collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement scalable solutions. This role involves working with tech stacks such as DynamoDb, MySql, Snowflake, and AWS, and requires experience in backend development and database technologies. You will also investigate and resolve trust and safety incidents, mentor junior engineers, and stay updated on industry trends. Requirements
- Proven experience of owning and operating high-availability, high-scale services
- Demonstrated experience working with ambiguity and defining success metrics to deliver impactful results
- Strong proficiency in backend development, including experience with one or more programming languages such as Java(preferred), Python, or Ruby
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, and experience with containerization technologies
- Experience with database technologies (e.g., MySQL, DynamoDb, data warehouse) and proficiency in SQL
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend systems for content classification, review, and enforcement to safeguard the billions of content published through Canva
- Collaborate with product managers and cross-functional stakeholders to research, clarify, and launch T&S solutions
- Develop and enhance tools and technologies that enable proactive monitoring, analysis, and reporting of trust and safety-related metrics
- Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in trust and safety to continuously improve our platform's security and user protection measures
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve trust and safety incidents, taking proactive measures to prevent their recurrence
- Participate in on-call rosters, mentor junior engineers, and share knowledge through various forums
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in trust & safety, fraud or abuse preferred but not necessary
- Comfortable developing solutions around egregious content (without the need for firsthand exposure)
