Senior Software Engineer

Summary

Join HackerOne's Payments Engineering Team as a Senior Software Engineer and contribute to building a compliant, flexible, and secure payment system for connecting customers and hackers. This remote position, based in Austin, TX or Washington, DC, focuses primarily on backend development using Ruby on Rails and GraphQL, with occasional frontend work in ReactJS. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Verification & Risk Monitoring, and Customer Support. The role involves shipping projects quickly, understanding business value, and translating feature requests into effective solutions. Within 90 days, you'll be preparing to lead your first project. HackerOne offers a flexible work approach with occasional in-person requirements.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in full-stack software engineering, especially within a SAAS environment
• Experience developing applications with Ruby on Rails and ReactJS
• Successful track record of shipping projects quickly with multiple dependencies across technical and non-technical teams

Responsibilities

• Develop backend-heavy payment processing code
• Occasionally work on frontend development
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Finance, Verification & Risk Monitoring, Customer Support, etc.)
• Translate feature requests into simple but robust engineering (or non-engineering) solutions
• Understand the business value of products and features and the needs of customers
• Lead projects

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise or interest in generative AI, ElasticSearch / OpenSearch
• Preference experience in payment systems such as bank transfers, PayPal, Stripe, and Bitcoin
