Summary

Join Howl, a creator-first social commerce platform, as a Staff Software Engineer. You will play a key role in shaping the core user experience for creators and brands, building tools to connect them, enable content monetization, and optimize performance marketing. This role involves leading complex projects, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. You will need proven engineering experience, expertise in serverless technologies and Typescript, and a strong understanding of backend architectures and databases. Requirements

  • Proven experience as an engineer, with career trajectory
  • Experience at consumer/customer facing apps (ecommerce or payments experience is a plus)
  • Deep understanding of serverless technologies (Vercel, AWS Lambda, Inngest, etc)
  • Expert level Typescript with Node
  • Strong understanding of various backend architectures (monolithic, microservices, serverless, event-driven, etc)
  • Proficiency with databases (e.g. MySQL, Snowflake)
  • Experience with web frameworks at scale (e.g Next.js, GraphQL)
  • Dedication to keep up with new developments in tech
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, motivation to achieve results in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Strong design intuition led by building Hi-Fi customer experiences
  • You are an owner, you are curious and start with why vs. how

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex projects from concept to deployment, driving technical direction, architecture, and implementation
  • Own projects, set realistic timelines, and deliver on commitments
  • Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and architectural discussions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project delivery
  • Advocate for software development best practices (Testing, CI/CD, Monitoring, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges quickly and effectively
  • Write technical documentation outlining decisions, rationale, and assumptions
  • Participate in risk analysis and management with engineering leadership

  • The base salary range for this role is $180,000 - $200,000
  • At Howl, we offer a competitive compensation package inclusive of base salary, incentive pay and stock options. Incentive awards are allocated based on individual performance. Certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role
