Senior Software Engineer

Summary

Join Toast's Retail POS team as a Senior Software Engineer and contribute to building and enhancing our point-of-sale system. You will work on a cross-functional team to deliver innovative features for retail customers across mobile, web, and microservice stacks. This role requires strong OOP skills, experience with Java or Kotlin, and a passion for creating excellent user experiences. You will be involved in the entire software development lifecycle, from design and prototyping to deployment and maintenance. The position offers competitive compensation and benefits, including a base salary range of $131,000 to $210,000 USD, plus additional cash compensation, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package. Responsibilities

• Build, enhance and maintain features for Retail customers across mobile, web and microservice stacks
• Ensure quality by building automated testing for changes
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including the payment services team, card reader hardware team, and orders architecture team
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from design and prototyping to deployment and maintenance
• Ensure robustness, performance, and reliability of the POS
• Provide technical guidance and support through code reviews and design discussions
• Work closely with the leads to identify high-impact opportunities
• Plan, scope and rapidly prototype solutions using a combination of web technologies
• Make technical decisions and recommendations that will lay the foundation for the future of our strategy
• Stay in tune with customer needs by participating in user interviews and research
