Join our dynamic Digital Product Engineering company as an IBM i Systems Administrator! You will manage and maintain IBM i Power systems and external storage, ensuring optimal performance and client satisfaction. Responsibilities include monitoring system performance, managing replication, performing backups and restores, and coordinating with other teams. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in IBM i administration, strong programming skills (CL and HLL), and expertise with tools like Mimix and BRMS. You will be responsible for researching and deploying new products, automating monitoring tasks, and leading skill-building efforts. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining high service levels.
Requirements
- Must have Skills: Mimix, BRMS (Backup recovery and media services), CL and HLL programming skill, IBM I performance management
- 7 or more years as administrator, or experience administering 5 or more large production partitions
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, switching, and routing concepts
- Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize tasks
- Ability to react quickly and appropriately to high pressure / high impact situations and determine the best solution
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly
- Ability to take the lead, as appropriate
- Ability to maintain good customer support
- Demonstrated CL and HLL programming skill
- Proven ability to monitor systems
- Proven ability to plan for system growth
- Demonstrated ability to use PN/400 and iDoctor
Responsibilities
- Provide metrics on system performance that matter to clients
- Administer and maintain IBM i Power systems, including DR systems and external storage
- Research and deploy new products (internally & externally developed)
- Manage replication to data warehouse systems using Mimix
- Monitor enterprise-level Power systems to maintain performance levels that meet business needs
- Manage i OS jobs and system messages
- Control job environment through adjustment of system resources and subsystems
- Perform backup and restore operations using BRMS
- Manage system and user security
- Coordinate system activities with other groups, such as Engineering, networking, Open systems, customer service, and product, to deliver optimum solutions for the business
- Keep service levels high
- Identify effects of new product offerings on infrastructure and propose design ideas
- Utilize performance management tools for IBM i and project future trending analysis in order to recommend proper upgrade specifications
- Research latest Power technology developments in order to design, spec, and implement the latest and best available technologies
- Automate monitoring tasks (functional and performance) - Lead skill building efforts for IBM i and external storage
- Set system performance thresholds that optimize client experience and infrastructure cost
