Summary

Beta Engineering is seeking a Substation Engineer to join their team. The engineer will be responsible for designing and interpreting drawings and calculations related to high-voltage substations, working with customers and other teams, and ensuring designs meet specifications and standards. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, 5+ years of experience in high voltage substation design, a PE license, strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, and knowledge of various engineering software. The role offers a salary range of $68,649 - $130,614 per year, benefits including medical, life insurance, 401k with company match, paid time off, and paid holidays.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering
  • 5 plus years of experience in the physical design of high voltage substations is required
  • PE license is required
  • Strong background in Microsoft Word, Mathcad, Excel, and PowerPoint required; strong verbal and written communication skills are required

Responsibilities

  • Design, interpret, and document drawings and calculations pertaining to the physical design of a substation
  • Ensure designs meet appropriate specifications and requirements
  • Perform various calculations related to conduit, grounding, control shelter, electrical arrangements, outdoor lighting, equipment vendor design packages, grounding calculations, conduit fill calculations, pulling tension calculations, vehicle tracking calculations, outdoor lighting calculations, lightning protection designs calculations, substation Sag-10 calculations, flexible jumper calculations, bus design calculations, arc-flash calculations, insulation coordination calculations, and underground ampacity calculations
  • Create and check material list descriptions for all major equipment and minor substation material
  • Answer technical questions posed by construction managers, field staff, project managers, customers, and their representatives
  • Recognize and recommend methods to improve customer’s experience
  • Perform other studies as able and required
  • Travel periodically to both customer offices for project meetings and to job sites for construction visits and testing
  • Manage day-to-day activities of schedule and design of projects assigned to them
  • Coordinate and problem solve between design teams and departments

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of all or some of the following applications are preferred: AutoCAD, CDEGS grounding software, CYMCAP, LitePro, FEAP, Southwire SAG/Ten, Alcoa, Vehicle Tracking, SAP-2000
