Summary

Join Marqeta as a Senior Technical Writer to create developer-focused content, collaborating with Product, Engineering, and Design teams. You will produce developer guides, API reference documentation, tutorials, and UI text for the Marqeta platform. This role is flexible and can be performed remotely within the Toronto or Vancouver metro areas. Responsibilities include writing clear documentation, evaluating tasks, analyzing audience needs, and working with engineers and product managers. You will also contribute to establishing style and process guidelines and collaborate on the documentation roadmap. The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science, or a related field, with at least 5-10 years of experience in technical writing for developer audiences
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, Swagger/OpenAPI or a similar framework, code commenting tools, and/or source code repositories
  • Ability to read and understand JSON/JavaScript source code
  • Familiarity with creating and publishing API reference documentation
  • Experience in Fintech, Banking, or Payments
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders in the Marqeta organization
  • Proficiency with authoring, CMS, and task management tools, such as Jira, GitHub, and Markdown
  • Ability to work independently, to collaborate, and to balance multiple projects
  • Knowledge of technical writing standards and familiarity with common style guides

Responsibilities

  • Write clear and helpful documentation for developers, analysts, managers, and other specialists who use the Marqeta platform and APIs to make and manage payment card programs
  • Evaluate documentation tasks, analyze audience needs, and draft updates to customer-facing documentation
  • Work closely with engineers, product managers, and other team members to gather information, test functionality, and obtain technical reviews
  • Participate in a writing team’s efforts to establish style and process guidelines and to choose and use good tools for writing and publishing documentation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on the docs roadmap, ensuring the team is aligned to the highest priority needs
  • Create a high-performing team culture where team members are supported, standards are consistently upheld, people are treated with respect, and everyone feels a sense of belonging

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Postman (or similar tool) and creating collections
  • Knowledge of backend API implementation patterns and partner-facing integration needs
  • Experience with improving documentation discoverability, structure, or usability
  • Experience with applying AI-based tools to production documentation pipelines
  • Previous experience as a developer or product manager
  • Experience with docs-as-code and with workflows for generating reference API docs from source code
