Summary

EasyPost is seeking a Senior Engineer to join their Developer Tooling Team. The role involves leading the design and implementation of developer tools, collaborating with software engineers, and advocating for emerging technologies. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in software development, proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Rust, or Go, and deep understanding of modern software development practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or a related field
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in software development, with a strong emphasis on developer tooling and enhancing the development experience
  • Proven track record in designing and implementing effective developer tools, workflows, and infrastructure
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Rust, or Go and experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)
  • Deep understanding of modern software development practices, including agile methodologies and CI/CD
  • Familiarity with observability and alerting frameworks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, CircleCI)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to implement effective solutions to complex technical challenges
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, effective in working with diverse teams

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive suite of developer tools, frameworks, and infrastructure to elevate productivity, code quality, and the development experience
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand their needs, translating these into effective and innovative tooling solutions
  • Advocate and nurture a transparent engineering culture, actively participating in open design reviews and collaborative idea refinement
  • Develop streamlined workflows, automated build systems, efficient code review processes, and robust alerting and observability mechanisms to enhance team productivity and collaboration
  • Commit to utilizing open source technologies where appropriate, while judiciously selecting the right tools for specific tasks
  • Establish and maintain effective and scalable CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and deployment processes to ensure fast, reliable software delivery
  • Research and advocate for emerging technologies and best practices in developer tooling, advising on their adoption to continuously advance our development processes
  • Produce comprehensive documentation, guidelines, and best practices for developer tooling, fostering widespread knowledge sharing and consistent adoption across teams
  • Model exceptional coding practices and software engineering principles, mentoring and providing technical guidance to team members
  • Coordinate with infrastructure teams to ensure the availability, scalability, and security of our tooling infrastructure
  • Stay abreast of industry trends in developer tooling, proactively identifying opportunities for enhancing our development ecosystem
  • Build a positive team culture focused on collaboration, knowledge sharing, and delivering high-quality results
