Requirements
- Ability to write clean, working, and reusable code
- Ability to produce high-quality code by adhering to good practices such as automated testing
- Experience working with large-scale, production systems, with attention to stability and caution
- A foundational understanding of data engineering, including how to use various datastores to handle persistent data in software systems
- Familiarity with modern data engineering, including techniques for cleaning and preprocessing data from a variety of sources
- Ability to preserve privacy and security when processing and analyzing data
- Clear communication about your data, models, and findings to technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to use the appropriate visualization tools to highlight actionable insights, trends, and recommendations from data
- Ability to work successfully within a professional services environment (e.g., can communicate effectively with clients)

Responsibilities
- Use a variety of data processing tools, languages, and libraries to ingest, transform, and enrich data
- Work with a variety of data processing and storage infrastructure while optimizing for performance and cost
- Analyze data for trends and patterns, developing actionable insights that drive business goals and objectives
- Write readable, reusable, and performant code to ensure the performance and reliability of data extraction and processing
- Preserve privacy, security, and integrity through the entire data life cycle
- Engage with stakeholders to identify opportunities for data-driven impact
- Collaborate with others as part of a cross-functional team that includes user experience researchers and designers, product managers, engineers, and other functional specialists
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with healthcare data standards like HL7 or FHIR
- Willingness to flex into other engineering tasks as required by the project
- Experience with legacy Java systems, like JBoss, Wildfly, or Java Server Pages
- Familiarity with containerized services and cloud technologies
- Prior experience working in the civic tech space
- Experience working in a remote-team environment
