Software Engineer

Summary

Join SmartAsset's Core Services team as a highly skilled engineer. You will be a key contributor to the development and scaling of critical lead management services. Collaborate closely with product teams and stakeholders to achieve sprint objectives and make key technical decisions. Actively participate in identifying and addressing technical debt. This role requires 3+ years of engineering experience, proficiency in Java/ReactJS, SQL, and cloud solutions (preferably AWS). The ideal candidate will also possess strong communication skills and a startup mindset.

Requirements

• 3+ years engineering experience: Creating, maintaining, and scaling highly available systems and services
• Proven track record in building, shipping, scaling, and operating Java (or similar) applications, with deep expertise in ReactJS
• Proficient in SQL and comfortable working with relational databases
• Solid knowledge of Git or similar source control tools
• Experience designing and implementing complex cloud solutions (preferably AWS), with the ability to plan and execute effectively
• Passionate about growing yourself, unafraid to ask for help, coaching and mentoring from others while volunteering to do the same for others
• Skilled at identifying risks, creating mitigations, and influencing solutions effectively
• Thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments with a cross-functional approach and a deep passion for technology, driving continuous improvement in your team, tools, and processes

Responsibilities

• Be part of an AGILE SCRUM team responsible for running and scaling our critical lead management services
• Collaborate closely with everyone around you including our product team and other stakeholders to complete sprint and triage objectives
• Actively participate and support making key technical decisions, documenting technical and improving processes as we revamp and reshape the services we provide
• Play a strong role in identifying tech debt, documenting it, and lobbying for its payback
• Present excellent communication skills that enhance collaboration in an asynchronous and fully remote environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of least privilege principle, application structure and OOP patterns
• Experience working in or developing in a CI/CD environment
• Familiarity using IAC tools such as (Terraform, Cloudformation)
• Knowledge operating incidents, releases, problem, and change management processes
