Software Engineer I

Summary

Join Toast's Websites team and contribute to the advancement and support of their new restaurant website hosting product. As a hands-on engineer, you will work on diverse projects, using your technical skills to help customers build thriving online businesses. You will debug production issues, design and implement APIs and user interfaces, collaborate with stakeholders, and work across teams to ensure seamless product integration. This role requires experience in developing full-stack web applications, backend technologies (Node.js and Java/Kotlin), and web fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript). Requirements

• Experienced in developing fullstack web applications
• Experience with backend technologies like Node.js and Java/Kotlin
• Skilled with web fundamentals like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Experienced with tools like Docker, Git, Bash/ZSH
• Thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment where you ship features together
• Passionate about writing testable and clean code, with experience in API design and unit/integration testing
• Passionate about making users happy and seeing people use your product in the wild

Responsibilities

• Learn how our systems, product, and team operate together to help our customers succeed online. Quickly build your knowledge about how to develop software at a large scale
• Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack and implement appropriate fixes with an eye towards improving software quality over the long-term
• Design, scope, and implement cutting-edge APIs and user interfaces using a mix of technologies
• Collaborate closely with Design and Product stakeholders to ensure we are building the right solutions to the right problems
• Be an awesome teammate who’s all in on collaboration and collective success
• Work across teams to ensure that every part of our product ecosystem works seamlessly together to deliver the best possible experience for our customers

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with frontend frameworks like React or Angular, and CSS frameworks like Tailwind or Bootstrap is a plus
