Software Engineer II - Scoring Orchestration

Join Abnormal Security as a Software Backend Engineer II and contribute to the Detection Team, building cutting-edge technology to identify and stop email and cloud-based attacks. You will focus on creating scalable solutions for the Detection’s Scoring Platform, processing emails at high volumes. The ideal candidate possesses a first-principles approach to building scalable solutions, a drive to solve real-world problems, and an ownership-oriented outlook. You will architect, design, build, deploy, and maintain message processing infrastructure, own projects scaling data processing services, and collaborate with MLE and Data Science teams. This role requires strong computer science fundamentals and experience with large-scale distributed systems on cloud platforms.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer or in a similar role, with hands-on experience in building data-focused solutions
• Experience with maintaining large scale distributed systems on cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, including a strong grasp of best practices in cloud-based engineering
• Familiarity with maintaining real-time data pipelines or streaming services
• Experience working with distributed teams , proficient in asynchronous and written communication
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. You’re capable of breaking down complex challenges into manageable steps and iterating on solutions, balancing immediate needs with long-term scalability

• Strong fundamentals in computer science, data structures, and performance optimization
• BS degree in Computer Science, Applied Sciences, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Information Systems or other related engineering field

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, build, deploy and maintain message processing infrastructure that supports a world-class Detection Engine
• Own projects that scale our model serving and data processing services to handle 10x the traffic we serve today
• Own real-time, near real-time streaming pipelines, and online feature serving services
• Collaborate closely with MLE and Data Science teams by accelerating product delivery and providing a stable platform for detection

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with our stack (AWS, K8, Python/Django, Golang, Postgres)
• Experience / passion in building scalable, enterprise-grade applications
• Familiarity with AI development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or Claude
