Software Engineer (Junior-Mid)

Almanak
Summary
Join Almanak's AI team as a Python Software Engineer to build AI agents in DeFi. You will design, implement, and benchmark Python-based AI agents, including planning loops, memory & vector stores, tool orchestration, and evaluation harnesses. Responsibilities include parsing raw transaction data, tracing smart contract calls, and identifying why AI-generated code or actions failed. You'll experiment with new models and frameworks, presenting findings and integrating successful ideas into product features. Maintain code quality through clean, testable Python code, code reviews, and documentation. Demonstrate Python fluency and experience building autonomous agents. A strong understanding of crypto concepts like transactions, nonces, and smart contracts is essential. The ideal candidate is up-to-date on industry trends and thrives in a fast-paced, small-team environment.
Requirements
- Python fluency: Not your first rodeo. And you can prove it. You also understand the limitation of Vibe Coding. How to leverage it. When you beware of the danger
- Agent-building chops: You’ve coded at least one autonomous agent yourself—no step-by-step ChatGPT babysitting. (First interview round = build an agent live.)
- Crypto understanding: Comfortable with topics like transactions, nonces, gas mechanics, ERC-20 events, protocols, smart contracts, etc. Not the ability to talk about it at a dinner, but the ability to go down the rabbit hole and get your hands dirty. (Second interview round = dissect a raw tx.)
- Up-to-date mindset: You follow the latest news, best practices and stay up to date with the latest framework. Things are moving very quickly in this space! We need you to keep up naturally. Not because it’s your job, but because you want to
- Growth attitude: You like small teams, ambiguous problems, and shipping before the weekend
Responsibilities
- Ship real agents: Design, implement, and benchmark Python-based AI agents end-to-end: planning loops, memory & vector stores, tool orchestration, eval harnesses, deployment
- Decode blockchains: Parse raw transaction data, trace smart-contract calls, and surface actionable insights why the AI generated code or action failed on-chain
- Stay ahead of the curve: Run rapid experiments with new models (Gemini, Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.), frameworks (LangGraph, OpenAI SDK, Pydantic AI), and inference runtimes. Present findings to the team and turn the best ideas into product features
- Own code quality: Write clean, testable Python (type hints, pytest, CI). Review PRs, document decisions, and leave the codebase better than you found it
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience at an AI-related or crypto-related startup, or quant shop
- Meaningful OSS contributions in AI/ML, agent frameworks, blockchain analytics, or Python libraries (link them!)
Benefits
- Competitive compensation, consisting of either fiat/crypto remuneration and an equity package in the core Almanak holding + bonuses
- Flexible schedule & remote work: You’ll be able to work remotely and manage your own time. We want you to work from a place that makes you the happiest and contributes to your overall well-being
- Co-working space, gear, and education budgets: The company will invest in your comfort at work and in your personal growth
