Summary

Join SEO as a Software Engineering Core Teaching Assistant (TA) and facilitate our summer residency program for rising junior computer science students. This part-time, remote position runs from June 11th to August 1st, 2025, with approximately 29 hours per week from June 23rd to August 1st and 5-10 hours per week from June 11th to June 20th. Responsibilities include leading workshops and demos, providing office hours, checking in on student progress, and mentoring students on projects. The role requires strong Python skills, proficiency in various technologies, and prior teaching experience. Requirements

  • Possess strong Python skills and an understanding of the social implications of technology
  • Be proficient with version control, command line, web technologies (HTML/CSS, JavaScript), and debugging large projects
  • Have a working knowledge of Data Structures and Algorithms for technical interviews
  • Have prior experience teaching or tutoring high school/college-aged students

Responsibilities

  • Lead workshops and demos for students
  • Provide office hours to students
  • Check-in on student progress
  • Provide mentorship to students as they work on projects and prepare to apply for SWE internships
  • Oversee student projects that culminate in end-of-residency presentations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have experience with project management tools such as Jira, Trello
  • Be proficient with Flask
  • Have at least one year of full-time software engineering experience (including internships)
  • Have experience working on a computer science instructional team, including a university course, bootcamp, etc
  • Understand the tech industry hiring process and common barriers to entry and have the ability to communicate effectively with students
