SQL Server Database Consultant

Summary

Join Pythian, a multinational company specializing in strategic database and analytics services, as a SQL Server Database Consultant. This remote position offers complete support for all aspects of database and application infrastructure for various clients. You will coordinate, analyze, design, implement, and administer IT solutions based on Microsoft's Data Platform, recommending best practices and troubleshooting operational problems. The role involves administering backup procedures, disaster recovery plans, and proactive daily checks, as well as presenting technical courses and participating in on-call coverage. Strong T-SQL scripting and tuning experience, along with experience in SSRS, Power BI, SSIS, and SSAS, are essential. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are also required.

Requirements

• Installing, configuring and upgrading from previous SQL Server versions like 2008 up to 2022 databases
• SQL Server Administration including: Managing Server and Database storage
• SQL Server third party tools
• Performance tuning of database server
• SQL Server management tools
• Designing and implementing various backup/recovery strategies
• Replication, log shipping, mirroring, clustering, Always On Availability Groups
• SSRS & Power BI, SSIS, and BI experience
• Coding scripts, procedures, functions, etc
• Strong T-SQL scripting and tuning experience
• Performance tuning experience
• Developing methods for monitoring database systems
• SSAS: Support of cubes, ETL processes and data warehouse environments
• Awareness of development practices including but not limited to agile and waterfall
• Working directly with external customers
• Project management notions
• White paper writing, blogging and presentation skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Administering cloud solutions inc but not limited to Azure, AWS and Google Cloud
• Developing cloud solutions inc but not limited to Azure, AWS and Google Cloud
• Ability to lead and design technical project roadmaps with clients and internally
• Interfacing with external customers, strong customer service focus with the ability to maintain customer expectations and priorities
• Excellent oral and written communication
• Self-motivated and directed, while working in a fast-paced demanding environment
• Keen attention to detail

• Communicating status and planning activities to customers and team members

Preferred Qualifications

• Supporting cloud migrations and environments would be considered an asset
• PowerShell experience is an advantage
• Automation experience is an advantage
