Sr. Manager Database Reliability Engineer, Remote - Worldwide

Summary

The job is for a Sr. Manager, Database Reliability Engineering at iHerb. The role involves leading a team, hiring top talent, conducting regular 1:1s, working with leadership to build a progressive vision for the data stack, assisting in defining observability metrics, participating in on-call support rotation, driving automation of database infrastructure, collaborating with other technology teams, and building strong relationships with TPM, software engineering, and other business units.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Excellent communication skills. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical peers
• 5+ years of direct management experience in a technology role
• 7+ years of experience operating large-scale relational databases across a variety of platforms and providers
• 5+ years of experience with infrastructure automation (IaC) and configuration management tools such as Ansible and Terraform
• Strong programming skills with Python or other scripting languages
• 2+ years of experience with data engineering pipeline and streaming technologies such as Airflow, Kafka Connect, Spark, etc

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of database reliability engineers in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Hire top notch talent that buys into iHerb values and engineering culture
• Conduct regular 1:1’s to provide feedback, mentoring and career development for your team members
• Work with leadership to build a progressive vision for our data stack
• Assist in defining and tracking observability metrics in order to achieve various SLO’s
• Participate in on-call support rotation as needed
• Drive an obsessive agenda towards full automation of database infrastructure, specifically in AWS
• Create a comprehensive plan for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges
• Work closely with our ProdOps (NOC) team to ensure operational excellence and quick remediation of issues and outage
• Collaborate with other technology teams to enhance and expand a resilient and elastic cloud footprint

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with Databricks is a strong plus
