Staff Backend Engineer

Summary

Join Grafana Labs as a Staff Software Engineer and take a leading role in developing and enhancing enterprise plugins for Grafana dashboards. You will build new plugins, improve existing ones, and ensure their smooth operation in Grafana Cloud. Collaboration is key, working with various teams to solve complex engineering challenges. This remote position requires strong backend engineering experience with Go, operational experience, and a user-centered approach to software development. Requirements

• Be comfortable working in a remote-first company
• Have solid professional experience as a Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Go and backend services
• Have strong coding skills and operational experience; be responsible for operating the software you have built
• Have experience participating in on-call rotations to support software in production, ensuring reliability and responding to incidents as needed
• Have a good understanding of a software development process that takes a user-centered approach
• Easily build an understanding of the users’ context and goals which will help you build the right solution that brings the biggest value to them
• Know how to transform ideas into working code – be able to design a solution, get feedback, and deliver large projects
• Be a self-driven individual who understands the power of feedback loops in making roadmap decisions and driving our product forward
• Be able to communicate the design decisions clearly in written and spoken English
• Enjoy working on complex solutions
• Have an active interest in the three observability pillars and how they come together to build a powerful workflow
• Have experience in some or all of the following: Backend technologies: Strong expertise in Go and familiarity with other backend languages is valued
• Have experience in some or all of the following: Containerization and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes
• Have experience in some or all of the following: CI/CD and DevOps: Knowledge of building pipelines, automated testing, and deployment strategies
• Have experience in some or all of the following: Monitoring and observability: Familiarity with tools like Grafana, Prometheus, or other observability platforms

Responsibilities

• Build enterprise Grafana plugins to integrate third party services or databases into Grafana
• Innovate our plugin system to allow for enhanced capabilities
• Support the operations and reliability of our plugins in Grafana Cloud
• Come up with suggestions for process improvements
• Provide technical support in customer escalations
• Work closely with the rest of the Grafana Division

Preferred Qualifications

• Have some experience with frontend technologies
• Have familiarity with other backend languages
• Have experience with Frontend technologies (nice to have): TypeScript, React, Redux, and RxJS
