Summary
Join Planet as a Staff Data Scientist and contribute to a data-driven culture within our Platform Product group. You will deliver actionable insights to understand customers better, collaborating with leadership and engineering teams. This role involves designing analyses, communicating results, and mentoring junior data scientists. The position is full-time and remote, based in the United States. You will play a crucial role in building a culture of measurement directly reflected in the product roadmap and will be the most senior individual contributor on Planetβs Data team. This is an opportunity to influence data science best practices as we branch further into applied models, A/B testing, and machine learning.
Requirements
- 12+ years of relevant experience
- Experience working independently with product, engineering and/or business leadership to identify and meet data science needs, leveraging data sourced from internal and 3rd party sources
- Excellent business acumen and the ability to translate business asks into technical analyses and effectively communicate out the results
- Experience mentoring more junior data ICs
- Excellent SQL and Python skills
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred)
- Experience building, maintaining & improving productionized analyses, models or algorithms
- Data warehousing/modelling familiarity sufficient to unblock yourself when presented with a novel data source
Responsibilities
- Drive a culture of measurement within our Platform Product group by understanding the vision of our Platform Product team and identifying the key data insights needed to drive that vision and measure success
- Own the relationship with cross-functional partners across product, engineering, and commercial teams; translating their requirements into a prioritized data science roadmap
- Design, implement and deliver clear analyses of customer behavior with actionable recommendations
- Effectively communicate results and advocate for recommendations to a broad audience with varying degrees of data literacy
- Act as the technical leader for the data science and analytics arm of the Data team, including developing best practices for statistical analysis and complex modelling
Preferred Qualifications
- Passion for building data-driven culture
- Experience working with geospatial datasets
- Experience working with pipelines built in dbt, and/or with self-service reporting tools like Looker or Omni
