Staff Database Engineer

Summary

You will be a key member of the core platform team, responsible for maintaining SQL and NoSQL databases and building database components for optimal performance and scalability. This role requires strong computer science fundamentals and at least six years of hands-on database engineering experience. Requirements

• Strong computer science fundamentals
• 6 years of hands-on experience in database engineering (SQL and NoSQL)
• Good understanding of SQL engine internals to help design and tune databases to get the optimal performance
• Experience implementing and operating databases related components in distributed services environments at scale
• Experience in cloud databases such as AWS Aurora, DynamoDB
• Great communication skills and are comfortable working with a distributed team

Responsibilities

• Drive various initiatives to ensure our database is reliable, scalable and optimal
• Maintain our SQL and NoSQL databases
• Build any database related component/strategy, such as intelligent routing, cross-service transactions, performance turning etc
• Work closely with backend engineers and infrastructure team to solve our most pressing platform problems about cost-saving and supporting 10x growth
• Lead scoping, design, prioritization, and implementation
• Drive their production rollouts to completion with minimum oversight

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with CI/CD to improve code stability and code quality
• Proficient in Infrastructure as Code, using tools like CDK and Terraform
• Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as DataDog, AWS Cloud watch
