Staff Engineer

Summary

Join OLX as a Staff Backend Engineer and work remotely from Portugal on a mixed tech stack, primarily using Golang and AWS within a microservices architecture. You will contribute to the development of scalable platforms for the Motors marketplace, collaborating with various teams and mentoring senior developers. This role involves proposing initiatives to senior leadership, managing tech debt, and participating in product design discussions. You will be expected to have strong coding skills, experience with large-scale web applications, and expertise in areas like high-performance systems or microservices migration. Requirements

• Possess a critical mindset and autonomy
• Be able to effectively communicate in English complex technical concepts to different disciplines (designers, support team, and other engineers)
• Have experience with large-scale web applications, with an economic thinking mindset
• Possess strong coding skills and Computer Science fundamentals
• Have experience in technical coaching and mentorship, as well as technical leadership
• Have experience with CI/CD, RESTful APIs, AWS, and relational and non-relational databases
• Currently reside in Portugal
• Demonstrate deep experience in at least one of the following: High-performance scalable systems; Migrating from Monoliths to a Microservices architecture, or Taxonomies

Responsibilities

• Invest time in aligning engineering around high-value problems and solutions
• Work closely with product and engineering leadership
• Propose initiatives and changes to senior leadership and work with them to make clear the business value of what will often be deep technological changes
• Collaborate with multiple teams and mentor other senior developers on identifying, managing, and minimizing tech debt
• Build scalable platforms used by people around the globe while developing and maintaining products with billions of page views per month
• Participate in solving specific technical challenges with engineers from other European offices, having a chance to accelerate your impact by delivering for millions of customers
• Own the development process end-to-end participating in product design discussions, writing and reviewing code on a wider range of projects, assuring quality and the strategy for development
• Advocate for improvements to product quality, security, and performance that have a particular impact on your team and others
• Focus on delivery towards DevOps mentality
• Collaborate and learn with the OLX EU Engineering community
