Summary

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • 7+ years of professional experience in mechanical design
  • Demonstrated experience with spacecraft level mechanical architecture, design as well as component design such as space mechanisms and packaging electronics for the space environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge in mechanical GD&T
  • Experience with configuration control, MES and PLM tools
  • Proficiency in CAD tools in Solidworks
  • Passion for the space industry
  • Proven ability to lead projects from concept to delivery in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, analysis, and optimization of mechanical systems and structures for advanced satellites, ensuring they meet performance, weight, and reliability requirements
  • Lead the end-to-end development of mechanisms, from concept and prototyping to qualification and flight hardware delivery
  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings for spacecraft components, subsystems, and assemblies
  • Perform structural, thermal, and dynamic analyses to validate designs and ensure compliance with mission requirements
  • Design and develop detail piece part and assembly drawings
  • Assemble and test development and flight systems
  • Manage team of mechanical engineers and CAD drafting technicians
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design efficiency, manufacturability, and system performance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in mechanical
  • 5+ years experience in development and production of space systems
  • Experience in or exposure to mechanical design for propulsion systems, mechanisms, and/or payloads
  • Proficiency in analysis tools such as NASTRAN, Thermal Desktop or similar
  • Experience with equipment operation in vibration facilities
  • Track record of innovative problem-solving in complex mechanical designs
  • Experience working in a startup or similarly dynamic and fast-paced environment
