Summary

Join Airbnb's Trust Emerging Defense team as a Staff Engineer and contribute to building a safer and more private communication platform for millions of users globally. You will lead a team of engineers, collaborate with cross-functional partners, and develop machine learning models to mitigate fraud and enhance risk investigation tools. This role involves building products to ensure user safety and privacy across various communication mediums. The position is US-Remote Eligible, with occasional office work or offsite attendance. Compensation includes a competitive salary, bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

Requirements

  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning or a related field (or equivalent industry experience)
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering in a fast-paced tech environment
  • Strong programming skills (Java / Scala / Python / C++ or equivalent) with deep expertise in architectural patterns and designing scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems in a service-oriented architecture
  • Exposure to ML or interest in ML
  • Proven experience partnering with cross-functional leaders to define product/technical strategy and drive alignment
  • Experience leading large-scale, multi-team, multi-platform projects that require extensive collaboration, influencing and decision-making capabilities
  • Strong technical leadership with the ability to mentor engineers and set technical direction for the team
  • Desire to work collaboratively with cross-functional partners, such as design, product, data science, infrastructure, policy, operations, and legal partners
  • Passion to level-up those around you through curiosity and fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment

Responsibilities

  • Build a marketplace of products that ensure safety and privacy of guests and hosts
  • Provide technical vision and support other engineers' growth
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional partners, including software engineers, data scientists, product managers, and operations to identify opportunities for business impact, and refine and prioritize requirements for fraud detection and mitigation
  • Hands-on develop, productionize, and operate machine learning models and pipelines at scale, including both batch and real-time use cases
  • Enhance and extend risk investigation tools to enable efficient decision-making on behaviors that could result in physical safety or property damage incidents
