Summary
Join Grafana Labs as a Staff Software Engineer specializing in OpenTelemetry Java instrumentation. You will leverage your expertise to improve the OpenTelemetry Java SDK and contribute to strategic projects within the OpenTelemetry ecosystem. Collaborate with open-source communities, mentor junior team members, and support the team's technical direction. Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in software development, with strong proficiency in Java (experience with Python, .NET, Golang, or JavaScript is a plus)
- Experience with delivering projects from start to finish in a self-driven manner, including gathering requirements and brainstorming ideas
- Experience writing clean, maintainable, robust, and performant software
- Some experience with cloud-based software development or systems engineering
- Familiarity with Observability tooling (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry) from a developer's perspective
- Desire to contribute to or experience working in Open Source communities
Responsibilities
- Develop improvements to the OpenTelemetry Java SDK and other strategic projects in the OpenTelemetry ecosystem
- Collaborate in open-source communities; contribute to the OpenTelemetry specification and components across various programming languages (primarily Java)
- Be visible as an OpenTelemetry expert; teach others and promote best practices
- Support the technical direction and vision of the team and contribute to business conversations on OpenTelemetry strategy
- Mentor junior team members
- Lend your knowledge and skills to other departments within Grafana (GTM, Product, and Support teams)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Java instrumentation techniques (bytecode manipulation, JVM internals, Java agents)
- Experience in a hands-on technical leadership role, setting technical direction and leading project teams
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and frameworks such as Spring Boot, Micronaut, Quarkus
- Experience contributing to or maintaining Open Source projects, with evidence of successful pull requests and community collaboration
