Summary

Join Amplitude's new Design Systems team as a Staff Software Engineer and lead the technical direction of our design system and component library. Collaborate with product teams to build reusable UI components using TypeScript, React, and CSS. Establish and maintain a governance model, develop systems for continuous improvement, and create user-friendly documentation. Partner with product teams to ensure the design system meets their needs and participate in design and code reviews. Lead engineering discussions and mentor peers on best practices. This role requires 6+ years of frontend or full-stack engineering experience and expertise in building component-based UIs with modern tools.

Requirements

  • Bring 6+ years of experience in a frontend or full-stack engineering role
  • Thrive on building component-based UIs with modern tools like React and TypeScript
  • Excel at crafting atomic, composable, and reusable components
  • Be well-versed in current and emerging web development trends, including styling approaches (e.g. CSS Modules, Sass, Tailwind), component libraries (e.g. Radix, shadcn), and design system tooling (e.g. Storybook, Chromatic)
  • Be familiar with WCAG 2.2 Accessibility Standards
  • Have strong UI/UX sensibilities and a keen eye for detail
  • Care deeply about the technical details that distinguish performant, accessible interfaces from those that merely look good

Responsibilities

  • Develop reusable components that serve as the foundation for Amplitude’s UI, using TypeScript, React, and CSS
  • Establish and maintain governance model
  • Develop systems, patterns, and tooling to continuously improve the quality, performance, and accessibility of Amplitude’s UI components
  • Create clear, user-friendly design system documentation to empower product teams
  • Partner closely with product teams (including product managers, product and brand designers, and engineers) to ensure the design system meets their current and evolving needs
  • Participate in design and code reviews to uphold high standards
  • Lead engineering discussions and mentor peers on best practices, particularly around component reusability, accessibility, and performance optimization
