Requirements
- Minimum of 12 years of professional software development experience with substantial experience in a technical leadership role, driving large-scale projects across multiple teams
- Must have experience working with large systems or event-driven platforms at enterprise-scale
- Demonstrated expertise designing, implementing, and operating scalable SaaS solutions leveraging Java, Node.js, TypeScript, RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and AWS cloud services (ECS/EKS, Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway)
- Expert-level knowledge of DevOps methodologies including infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CloudFormation), CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions/Jenkins), observability monitoring (Datadog/Prometheus), and containerization/orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes)
- Proven track record of successfully delivering strategic cross-domain technical initiatives that align with broader business objectives
- Extensive experience influencing engineering direction across teams, setting technical roadmaps, and providing mentorship for senior engineers
- Ability and willingness to participate in PagerDuty's on-call rotation as a leader of mission-critical systems
Responsibilities
- Define and lead the technical vision, architecture, and strategic direction for PagerDuty Workflow Automation, driving cross-domain initiatives and aligning them with company-wide strategic goals
- Architect and deliver complex technical solutions spanning multiple engineering teams, ensuring scalability, reliability, maintainability, and performance
- Collaborate closely with engineering management, product leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders to proactively identify critical technology investments required for long-term growth
- Act as a recognized technical leader and subject matter expert in SaaS development, workflow automation systems, and cloud-native architectures (AWS), proactively mentoring senior engineers and fostering a culture of technical excellence
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of technology initiatives—from inception and prototyping to implementation and long-term operational excellence—providing technical oversight and strategic guidance
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, processes, and tools, enhancing team productivity, system reliability, and overall customer experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep expertise in building complex workflow automation systems or event-driven platforms at enterprise scale
- Experience defining system-level Service Level Objectives (SLOs), performance metrics, and operational excellence standards across large-scale systems
- Recognized thought leadership within the industry, including presentations at conferences or contributions to open-source projects
- Proven ability to effectively communicate with executive leadership, aligning technical strategy with broader organizational goals
