Based remotely in India (preferably Mumbai or Bangalore), you'll ensure US sales tax compliance across multiple entities and handle international VAT & GST. You will prepare and file tax returns, maintain accurate ledgers, resolve tax notices, and collaborate with our external tax firm. This role offers hands-on experience in US taxation and requires strong attention to detail and organizational skills. You'll need to be proficient in Excel and familiar with tax software. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and 2-4 years of relevant experience are required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 2 - 4 years of experience in US tax preparation, tax compliance, or accounting (focus on US sales taxes, VAT and GST a plus)
  • Basic understanding of US federal and state tax laws and regulations
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with accounting or tax software (e.g., QuickBooks, Avalara, or similar tools)
  • Ability to research and interpret tax regulations effectively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem-solving mindset and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Must be able to flex at least 4 working hours to overlap with North American time zones; Requirement to work until 3:30pm EST (US)

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and reconcile reporting between internal systems and Avalara
  • Review and reconcile sales tax returns for multiple technology entities across various states and jurisdictions
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals and businesses
  • Support tax calculations, reconciliations, and data analysis for compliance with US tax regulations
  • Research and apply sales tax regulations to ensure compliance in all relevant jurisdictions
  • Monitor nexus thresholds and recommend actions when new obligations arise
  • Coordinate and file annual reports and other state-specific compliance requirements
  • Track and manage deadlines for multiple entities to ensure timely submissions
  • Maintain accurate ledgers for estimated tax payments and balances associated with income and franchise tax accounts
  • Perform reconciliations to ensure all records are accurate and up to date
  • Address and resolve notices received from federal, state, and local tax agencies
  • Analyze and provide documentation to support issue resolution
  • Work closely with our external tax firm on complex or strategic tax matters
  • Provide supporting documentation and information to facilitate accurate filings and strategic planning
  • Maintain accurate tax records and documentation for audit readiness
  • Identify opportunities to streamline tax-related processes and improve efficiency
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations that may impact the company

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with multi-state tax compliance and reporting is preferred
