Summary

Join Ross University School of Medicine's Academy of Teaching & Learning (ATL) as a Teaching Assistant (TA) and support first- and second-year medical students. Assist senior faculty in providing academic success support, including individualized and group tutoring, facilitating academic enhancement courses, and mentoring students. Responsibilities involve tracking student engagement, providing academic coaching, and collaborating with a team to enhance the student experience. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, along with a strong commitment to the ATL's mission. This is a full-time position running from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024, with a Monday-Friday schedule. Recent RUSM graduates with an M.D. degree are preferred.

Requirements

  • Assist in the instruction of ACE courses especially with small group learning
  • Academic support will consist of tutoring sessions, advising on recommended study strategies and test taking skills, content review using multiple choice questions, as well as monitoring the success of students and providing check-ins
  • Serve as mentors to a cohort of students by maintaining close communication with each student and providing guidance
  • Track engagement during concept clarification bootcamp sessions
  • Participate in ATL meetings
  • Attend training sessions to become competent in tutoring and assessment skills
  • Work independently and collaboratively with a team by developing and cultivating relationships and networks to achieve desired results
  • Create student academic resources with the senior faculty to enhance the student experience, such as presentations, videos, and selection of MCQ questions sets
  • Complete other duties as assigned by ACE course directors such as grading of ACE assignments
  • Complies with all policies and standards
  • Must be a recent graduate of Ross University School of Medicine
  • Must have an M.D. degree and completed all clinical rotations by April 30, 2025
  • Strong teaching/tutoring skills and experience; or evidence of potential
  • Must work well on a team and show flexibility
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Desire for self-improvement and openness to feedback for improvement

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of individualized/group tutoring
  • Assist with the facilitation of sessions in the Academic Enhancement (ACE) courses and Road to Success program
  • Track engagement in Concept Clarification Bootcamps
  • Assist with the mentorship of medical sciences students
  • Provide academic support within the ATL’s strategies and interventions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching and/or tutoring experience in academic setting
  • Mentoring or advising experience in academic setting
  • Leadership experience in student co-curricular activities
  • Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office (specifically, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
