Join HubSpot's Permissions Management Backend team and play a pivotal role in shaping how customers interact with the platform. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will own and deliver backend projects using Java, mentor teammates, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. You will design, build, and support high-performing, secure, and scalable systems, driving quality throughout the development lifecycle. Key projects involve overhauling the permissions model for greater granularity and scalability, making permissions self-service, and integrating AI for improved processes. Requirements

• Is a strong senior backend engineer (Java experience required) with formal leadership on smaller teams — especially in critical or challenging systems
• Loves to take ownership, work collaboratively, and figure things out in a fast-moving environment
• Consistently ships reliable, performant, well-tested code
• Has a thirst for technical challenges and distributed systems
• Knows how to foster autonomy, psychological safety, and learning on their teams
• Enjoys mentoring and coaching — and is open to learning from others too
• Puts the customer at the center, shaping insights that help improve the HubSpot platform
• Is excited by the chance to impact all of HubSpot’s engineers, and set the standard on a tier 1, business-critical system

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver backend projects, leading by example with hands-on Java development
• Mentor teammates and foster a positive, inclusive, and learning-first environment
• Work cross-functionally with engineering and product partners across HubSpot
• Design, build, and support performant, secure, and scalable systems
• Drive quality in everything we ship, from planning and design through testing and deployment

Benefits

• Annual Cash Compensation Range: $165,500 — $248,300 USD
• In addition to cash compensation, some roles are eligible to participate in HubSpot’s equity plan to receive restricted stock units (RSUs)
• Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay
