Summary
Join Caribou Biosciences' Summer Internship Program and gain hands-on experience in a leading clinical-stage CRISPR genome-editing biopharmaceutical company. As a Technology Development intern, you'll contribute to real projects, developing and optimizing CRISPR platforms for therapeutic applications. The program offers mentorship, networking events, and a final project showcase. Interns will work closely with teams, assisting with in vitro assays, cell manipulation, molecular biology techniques, and data analysis. The program provides valuable experience in genome editing, cell culturing, and regulatory guidelines. Successful candidates will be pursuing a degree in a related field and possess strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in biology, genetics, biochemistry or a related area
- Interest in genome editing, gene therapy, cell therapy, and molecular biology
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- For lab-based internships, must be at least 18 years old for safety reasons
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. (foreign students must have OPT approval from their school)
- Must be able to work onsite in Berkeley, CA, for 4-5 days per week, based on manager preference
- Must sign a university release form (provided by Caribou) acknowledging intellectual property terms and internship conditions
- If submitting a poster to an external university program (e.g., QB3), must complete Caribouโs publication clearance form. The internโs manager is responsible for ensuring timely submission
Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and executing in vitro functional assays for preclinical candidates
- Assist with optimization of gene editing in vitro assays and manipulation of different mammalian cells using viral transduction and non-viral delivery methods
- Maintain various mouse/human cells and perform molecular biology techniques, including primer design and PCR, in support of the Technology Development team
- Analyze assay results and effectively present them in internal group meetings and one-on-one discussions
- Attend team meetings and share ideas
- Maintain precise documentation of experimental procedures and outcomes using electronic laboratory notebook
- Collaborate with your mentor to troubleshoot challenges and find solutions
- Participate in intern events like networking sessions, team-building activities, and the final project showcase
Preferred Qualifications
- Some experience with cell culture, molecular cloning, and CRISPR genome editing is a plus but not required
- Interest or experience in genetic engineering, genetics, molecular biology, or cell biology
- Familiarity with Microsoft suite, Geneious/Benchling, UCSC browser
