Trading Systems Staff Engineer

Summary

Join Bitso's trading desk team as a talented C++/Python Software Engineer specializing in market making and liquidity provision. You will design, develop, and optimize high-performance system components, directly impacting the trading desk's performance. This role requires close collaboration with quantitative traders, operations, and infrastructure teams to enhance system reliability, scalability, and speed. You will work with real-time data, focusing on low latency and high-throughput performance. The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor's degree in a related field, 5+ years of software development experience (3+ years in electronic trading or financial systems), and proficiency in C++ and Python. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
• 5+ years of experience in software development, with at least 3 years focused on electronic trading or financial systems, ideally with experience in crypto markets
• Proficient in low-level, performance-oriented languages such as C++, Python
• Experience with communication protocols like Json, Google protobuf, FIX and WebSocket protocols
• Familiarity with pricing and order execution systems
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and multi-threading
• Experience with real-time data handling and systems with low latency requirements
• Track record of delivering production software at scale
• Familiarity with modern deployment and monitoring stacks (AWS: EC2, ECS; Docker, GitHub Workflows, ELK Stack, etc.)
• Knowledge of Financial Systems: Familiarity with trading concepts such as order books, bid-ask spreads, and liquidity
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to analyze and optimize complex systems
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas to a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize high-frequency trading systems with a focus on low-latency and high-throughput performance, specifically tailored for market making
• Integrate with market data sources to handle real-time updates, including pricing, volumes, and market depth data. Utilize this data to provide up-to-date quotes and manage position risks
• Build and maintain the order management system for both retail as well as institutional clients, enabling fast and efficient execution, with features for order throttling, cancellation, modification, and routing
• Implement risk management and monitoring tools that ensure safe trading within predefined limits, while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards
• Develop tools to monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and suggest improvements to reduce latency and improve overall efficiency
• Work closely with quant developers, data scientists, and operations teams to support the development and enhancement of trading models and algorithms
• Design, build, and run unit tests, integration tests, and load tests to ensure system reliability and stability. Participate in regular maintenance to keep the trading system current and efficient

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct experience working in trading or liquidity provision in crypto space is highly desirable
• Strong understanding of financial markets, especially equities, FX, and/or digital assets
• Experience with scripting languages and tools for automation of repetitive tasks in system monitoring and deployment
• Experience with DevOps practices, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud environments
