Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a similar engineering field
  • 5+ years of relevant traffic engineering experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation
  • Experience with Synchro 10 and traffic signal operations/phasing
  • Experience with innovative intersection and interchange configurations
  • Experience with the predictive methods of the Highway Safety Manual
  • Experience with traffic forecasting methods
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative team environment

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a project engineer and/or project manager in the planning and execution of traffic engineering projects
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals, budgets, and schedules
  • Conduct traffic engineering analysis and design
  • Prepare and review project documentation, reports, and specifications
  • Apply engineering techniques, methods, and design criteria to support project execution
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project goals are met
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies
  • May assign work to junior engineers or other staff
  • Depending on experience, may be involved in the mentorship and development of junior level staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in civil engineering or a similar engineering field
  • Registered as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE)
  • 10+ years of relevant traffic engineering experience
  • Experience in traffic signal and pavement marking design
  • Experience preparing simple to complex traffic studies
  • Experience with traffic simulation modeling software packages such as PTV’s VISSIM
  • Experience with travel demand modeling software packages such as Caliper’s TransCAD
  • Experience with urban, multimodal transportation planning and traffic calming
  • Experience leading teams in a project client environment
