Summary
Join Donegal Insurance Group as a Small Commercial Underwriting Manager and lead a team of underwriters, providing guidance and direction to achieve profitable results. Collaborate with other leaders to improve underwriting rules and processes, build necessary tools, and provide input on guidelines. Build positive agent relationships, deliver quality service, and meet SLAs. Provide hands-on training and performance management to your team. Partner with Regional Product Managers to ensure appropriate policy controls. Manage STP audits and report results. This role requires periodic travel to the corporate headquarters in Marietta, Pennsylvania.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree with a background in insurance or equivalent experience
- Minimum of seven (7) years P&C insurance experience, with at least five (5) years in Commercial Lines
- Prior Commercial Lines management experience is required, preferably in high volume fast-paced Small Commercial underwriting or operational roles
- Policy Center expertise is required, must demonstrate the ability to translate desired underwriting outcomes into system functionality
- Strong leadership skills, ability to quickly assess performance issues and take corrective measures to resolve issues
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of underwriters handling Small Commercial referrals for Donegal’s entire countrywide footprint
- Collaborate with VP Small Commercial and other Commercial Lines leaders on improving underwriting rules and enhancing quoting capabilities
- Collaborate with VP Small Commercial and VP Quality Assurance to build necessary tools to improve underwriting quality, such as documentation capabilities and audit processes
- Provide input on Donegal’s underwriting guidelines, and collaborate with Regional Underwriting VPs on appetite guide changes
- Build and maintain positive agent relationships by delivering quality service and meeting all SLAs
- Provide hands-on experience, training, and individual performance management plans to all team staff
- Partner with Regional Product Managers to ensure appropriate policy admin system controls are in place to ensure profitability
- Manage STP audits, and report results of audits to VP Small Commercial
Preferred Qualifications
Continuing education through attainment of professional insurance designations, such as, CPCU, ARM, API, etc. is beneficial
