Requirements

  • 3+ years of recent VA mortgage underwriting experience
  • Deep knowledge of VA guidelines, AUS (DU/LP), and federal lending regulations
  • Strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume lending environment
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Review and underwrite VA mortgage loan files (purchase and refinance) to ensure compliance with VA, investor, and company guidelines
  • Analyze credit, income, asset, title, and appraisal documentation for completeness and accuracy
  • Render timely and accurate underwriting decisions and issue conditional loan approvals or denials
  • Communicate effectively with Loan Officers, Processors, and other stakeholders to gather additional documentation as needed
  • Stay current with changes in VA underwriting guidelines and proactively apply updates to your work
  • Help identify process improvements and assist in the development of underwriting best practices
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and company requirements, including VA SAR responsibilities (if applicable)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of mortgage underwriting experience
  • 5+ years of VA experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Strong communicator with excellent writing skills
  • High integrity with strong ethical values
  • Team player with the ability to work effectively with a variety of team members
  • An active VA SAR credential is preferred
  • Experience in a consumer-direct lending environment is a plus
  • Comfortable working remotely and using modern loan origination systems and collaboration tools
