VP, Licensing and Business Affairs

Summary

Napster is seeking a lawyer with 3-7 years of experience, preferably in England & Wales or California, New York, or Washington State, to join their legal group. The role involves negotiating license agreements, providing commercially-focused legal advice, collaborating with external counsel, and advising on regulatory issues. Additional experience with music and technology-focused clients, NFTs, blockchain technologies, and Web3 is beneficial.

Requirements

• Qualified to practice law in England & Wales and/or California, New York or Washington State (although equivalent legal qualification in another U.S. state or a foreign jurisdiction would be considered)
• 3-7 years’ experience, of which some time was spent at an internationally or nationally recognized law firm and (ideally) some time was spent in-house

Responsibilities

• Negotiate license agreements with record labels, content aggregators, and publishing licensors in multiple territories
• Work closely with Napster’s business development team to provide commercially-focused legal advice on new and existing partnerships
• Collaborate with vendor management and developer platform teams to draft and review software licenses, service contracts, purchase orders, and other transactions
• Resolve complicated legal issues, negotiate settlement agreements, manage litigation, and other matters
• Advise on regulatory issues such as data protection, privacy, customer-facing terms documents, and government relations
• Assist in implementing Napster’s Web3 strategy as previewed in our Litepaper
• Provide legal analysis, research, factual information, counsel and guidance on unexpected business and legal questions and issues

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrable business and commercial judgment
• Experience with music and technology-focused clients and content licensing, ideally having established relationships and reputation with the music licensing community in Europe
• Experience working on matters related to NFTs, blockchain technologies, cryptocurrencies, FinTech, and other Web3 technology
