Art Collection Management Intern

Summary

Join ProSidian Consulting as an Art Collection Management Intern and gain practical experience in art cataloging, inventory management, and documentation. This remote internship involves inspecting and documenting artworks, creating detailed records, capturing high-quality images, and conducting research on artists and provenance. You will contribute to the comprehensive management of art collections, developing skills in cataloging, condition reporting, and inventory management. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and proficient in data entry and research. This role offers mentorship and insights into the art and consulting industries.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in or recently completed a degree in art history, museum studies, library sciences, or a related field
• Possess strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
• Be proficient in Microsoft Excel and data entry tools
• Have the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Possess strong research and analytical skills
• Have availability to travel for site visits as required

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough inspections of artworks, verifying physical conditions and assigning unique inventory codes for tracking
• Create and maintain detailed records for each artwork, including titles, artist details, dimensions, and acquisition data
• Capture high-quality images for catalog inclusion and insurance purposes, ensuring files are systematically organized
• Input and annotate detailed data attributes in spreadsheets, maintaining accuracy and consistency
• Investigate artist backgrounds, origins, and artwork provenance to provide additional catalog context
• Document physical conditions, noting any damage or restoration needs, and suggest preservation recommendations
• Record acquisition details, such as purchase dates, vendor information, and associated costs (e.g., shipping, framing)
• Classify artworks by type, genre, or theme to enhance collection usability and accessibility
• Compile records for insurance purposes and identify preservation needs to protect collection value
• Work with stakeholders to prioritize tasks, prepare detailed reports, and summarize collection updates
