Summary

Join MoCaFi's Legal team as a hardworking and solution-oriented lawyer. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will lead commercial and corporate transactional endeavors, ensuring compliance and providing strategic support. This remote or hybrid (NYC) position requires experience in financial services or fintech, focusing on US consumer payments. You will advise on intellectual property, monitor legal developments, and design legal operational processes. The role demands strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Compensation ranges from $160,000 to $240,000, depending on location and experience.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related corporate and commercial experience, preferably within financial services or fintech industry, preferably with a focus on US Consumer Payments Experience (prepaid, debit, credit, and ACH)
  • JD from a highly reputable, ABA-accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice law and in good standing in at least one state bar/jurisdiction
  • Must be authorized and permanently located in the United States
  • Strong communication skills, detail-oriented and exceptionally organized
  • Robust interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Strong organization and self-reliant technology skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage various projects, meet deadlines, excel under pressure, and work independently

Responsibilities

  • Lead Counsel for business teams on transactional matters, including procurement and other commercial and corporate arrangements while ensuring compliance with applicable Company policies and contractual commitments
  • Provide legal advice on strategic commercial matters and prepare, review, and negotiate complex contracts
  • Lead Counsel for the Company on intellectual property matters, including, copyright, trademark, marketing, licensing, terms of use, and related activities and engagements
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments in corporate, commercial, intellectual property space and other relevant areas
  • Lead the design and implementation of legal operational processes, policies, and tools to ensure timely, efficient and effective commercial support
  • Support internal and external relationships with our teams, departments and critical partners
  • Familiarity with applicable state and federal laws with a focus on consumer finance and protection and related compliance, privacy, data use, and marketing requirements/laws
  • Become a trusted advisor and teammate, sharing legal and other expertise and support when needed
  • Identify and evaluate business and legal risks with an eye toward creative problem-solving

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Reg E, consumer finance, privacy, AML, and related marketing laws
  • A combination of firm and in-house experience
  • The ability and desire to develop expertise in new or unfamiliar areas of law
