Summary

Join AbbVie as an Associate Director, Medical & Scientific Learning Excellence, based in Mettawa, IL (or other AbbVie locations/remote). Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and execute learning resources on disease state, product, and treatment landscape. Lead planning, development, and delivery of scientific learning for internal stakeholders. Build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Develop learning content and experiences across product lifecycles, including self-paced modules, live/virtual training, and knowledge retention tools. Work collaboratively within a matrix organization to maximize synergies and minimize duplication. Advance medical and scientific learning from onboarding through ongoing learning to maintain expert-level scientific knowledge.

Requirements

  • Education: Scientific / Clinical / Medical educational background required
  • Advanced Scientific Degree (e.g., PhD, PharmD, MD, or NP) required
  • Professional experience: At least 5 years, including 3 years of prior MSL or related pharmaceutical industry experience (clinical experience highly preferred)
  • Strong scientific background, with the ability to critically review and analyze scientific literature in an objective manner and concisely summarize and communicate key information
  • Strong individual project management skills and works collaboratively with vendors to meet project and event timelines to deliver high-quality materials
  • Creative and strategic thinker possessing excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and interface in a dynamic environment across departments
  • Strong knowledge of Pharma regulatory and healthcare compliance guidelines
  • AI literacy and ability to leverage AI to develop learning resources
  • Advanced MS PowerPoint and MS Word as well as basic MS Excel proficiency required

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with identified individual(s) within designated therapeutic team to gain clarity Therapeutic Area (TA) learning needs and develop Integrated Scientific Learning Plans (ISLP) aligned to these needs
  • Utilizes adult learning principles during the planning, stakeholder alignment, and build-out of medical and scientific learning content for disease state, product, and treatment landscape
  • Partners with relevant colleagues involved in medical and scientific learning from across Global Pipeline, US, and International (including areas and affiliates) to ensure relevance of learning deliverables and consistency of offerings across the various MHI groups
  • Collaborates with learning partners across other functions, including International and US Commerical Learning/ Training, and Clinical Development Operations to advance efficiencies in learning content creation and repurposing
  • Ensures timely and efficient development and delivery of medical and scientific learning content/training related to disease state, product (including pipeline and enterprise-critical assets), and treatment landscape
  • Orchestrates, develops, and executes a learning path using a blended learning approach which includes self-paced interactive modules, live (in-person and virtual) workshops, multimedia (e.g., podcasts/videos) and knowledge retention tools, leveraging a common learning platform (The Academy)
  • Aligns and works collaboratively with the Leadership Development and Capabilities and Medical Excellence teams to ensure a synthesized approach that reflects a combination of scientific and capabilities focus within the onboarding curriculum
  • Reviews and critically assesses the impact of deliverables (learning plans, learning content, learner engagement) to gain insights that will inform and enhance future outputs
  • Expected to be able to travel up to 20% of time, as required by the role and areas of responsibility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience applying learning principles and creating innovative scientific learning content, highly preferred
  • Experience creating interactive content of various media types with e-learning software experience highly preferred
