Requirements

  • 3 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering design of consumer products
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience designing electronic packaging
  • Experience working with suppliers developing various part designs (Plastic, Rubber, Sheet Metal, Thermoform, Die Cut, etc.) and an understanding of their manufacturing processes
  • Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting and root causing issues
  • Good communication and leadership skills to facilitate design discussions and reviews across the organization, with suppliers, and design partners
  • Proficient with 3D CAD design using Creo or SolidWorks (Master Modeling, Surfacing, Sheet Metal, & Drawing recommended)
  • Hands-on experience building and testing prototypes in a team environment
  • Familiar with Optical and Force measurement systems
  • Experience with GD&T, & FEA
  • Familiar with mass production manufacturing processes and fixtures
  • Familiar with Reliability specifications MIL-STD, IEC, & UL

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders from diverse disciplines to gather and develop design requirements and specifications for product components and assemblies
  • Facilitate the prototyping process for mechanical and opto-mechanical components and assemblies, ensuring they meet production standards
  • Develop innovative concepts and designs for fixtures, and production components using 3D CAD software (e.g., Creo)
  • Assist in research and development to determine suitable product technologies within cost constraints
  • Design solutions to address technical challenges, ensuring the development of high-quality and innovative products
  • Participate in engineering design reviews, contributing to the development and improvement of product designs
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, suppliers, and outsource partners to support the design and development of products and components that meet mass production requirements
  • Support the design, fabrication, and installation of fixtures and equipment, ensuring adherence to engineering and customer specifications
  • Engage in prototype builds, troubleshooting manufacturing and reliability issues from cradle to grave
