Summary

Join Garner's rapidly growing team as an Engineering Manager! Lead the development of mission-critical backend systems using Python and AWS/Kubernetes. This role reports to the Director of Engineering of Payments, Claims & Eligibility and offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience, with a focus on distributed systems, real-time and batch data processing, data storage solutions, and message-oriented middleware
  • 3+ years experience as an engineering leader with a track record of translating ambiguous business requirements into scalable solutions and new product features
  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to inspire, motivate, mentor, and retain top engineering talent
  • Proven ability to influence without authority (e.g. driving process improvements, spearheading architecture enhancements, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight and drive new features with a focus on Garner’s strategic mission
  • Build a high-performance team by mentoring, providing feedback, and hiring
  • Continuously strive for quality while maintaining speed of delivery
  • Balance between greenfield features and scaling existing systems
  • Collaborate across disciplines by identifying bottlenecks and risks, proposing mitigation, and communicating tradeoffs
  • Protect our users’ privacy and security through best practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with medical insurance claims processing or healthcare data standards (e.g. HIPAA, EDI)
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP) and data infrastructure tooling, such as Kafka, Spark, or Flink
  • Strong sense of ownership and proactive problem-solving mindset
  • A willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and do whatever is necessary to ensure company success
  • Experience working in a rapidly evolving startup environment
  • A desire to be a part of our mission to improve the U.S. healthcare system
