Summary

Join Chamberlain University as a Visiting Professor of Chemistry and contribute to our mission of educating healthcare professionals. You will cover general, organic, and biochemistry, teaching online and in a hybrid setting. Responsibilities include conducting lab exercises, participating in faculty meetings, and implementing Chamberlain's Care philosophy. The ideal candidate holds a master's or doctorate in Chemistry with relevant coursework and teaching experience. This is a part-time, sessional position with compensation based on earned credit hours and experience.

Requirements

  • Earned a master's or doctorate degree in Chemistry with a minimum of 18 or more graduate credit hours earned directly in Chemistry Chemistry; biochemistry; organic chemistry; Analytic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Theoretical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Clinical BioAnalytical Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Neuro Chemistry, Material Science, Food Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Toxicology, Agricultural Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Astrochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Nanochemistry
  • Alternate Degree Fields (must confirm 18 hours of coursework in disciplines to the right): Pharmacology, Cheminformatics
  • Are able to provide official and unofficial transcripts for all earned degrees from a regionally accredited institution

Responsibilities

  • Cover the lower division chemistry disciplines of general and organic chemistry and introduce the upper division discipline of biochemistry
  • Seek to build an understanding of basic chemical processes and states of matter by starting with the definition of matter and progressing through the atom, molecules, intermolecular interactions, chemical equations and accounting
  • Present the major categories of organic compounds, including saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons and oxygen- and nitrogen-containing compounds
  • In the biochemistry portion, expose students to the four major biological macromolecules with some coverage of enzymes and the central dogma of biology
  • Conduct lab exercises related to topics discussed
  • Teach every other 8-week session, 3 times per year (subject to change based on enrollment)
  • Participate in faculty meetings 2-4 times per session
  • Become part of a dynamic team of educational professionals, teaching Nursing Students in a dynamic classroom/online hybrid setting
  • Implement and embrace Chamberlain College’s Care philosophy, curriculum and course objectives by engaging students
  • Establish an environment conducive to student engagement by effectively planning and preparing for classes, responding quickly to student requests for assistance and ensuring that students enjoy a powerful learning experience
  • Identify opportunities to enhance student engagement through collaboration with colleagues who provide academic and professional guidance
  • Identify agencies for student clinical experiences, plan clinical experiences, choose preceptors and guide students as they deliver nursing care in a practical setting
  • Promote student success by demonstrating a flexible style and exhibit a passion for teaching by devoting time and energy to develop scholarly excellence
  • Engage with a diverse student body comprised of a variety of ages, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities and academic preparation
  • Foster a positive learning environment by keeping accurate records, submitting grades on time, and enforcing academic and attendance policies
  • Participate in curriculum development discussions, support campus events including orientation and graduation, open houses
  • Enhance the learning environment by engaging in research, scholarship, service and academic advising

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have at least 15-credit hours of higher education teaching experience

Benefits

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected compensation rate for this position is between $850/Earned Credit Hour to $1,950/Earned Credit Hour, depending on the candidate’s education and experience
