Civil Engineering - Highway Design

Summary

The job is a summer 2025 internship position for an undergraduate civil engineering student interested in highway design. The intern will work with professional engineers and technicians on projects for the Department of Transportation, local agencies, and design-build contractors. The ideal candidate has previous experience with Microstation, strong interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and an interest in transportation.

Requirements

• Undergraduate pursuing a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering with interest in transportation
• Previous experience or formal training with Microstation
• Strong interpersonal skills; Ability to work in a team environment
• Effective verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

Assist with highway design, geometric layouts, alignments, profiles, cross sections, and production of final plans, specifications, and cost estimates

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous coursework or project assignments related to transportation or highway design
• Thorough understanding of drafting techniques, plan development, and related engineering practices
• Previous experience developing construction plans and specifications
