Co-Founder

Summary

Join Deep Science Ventures (DSV) as a Co-Founder in Residence focused on climate change solutions. This full-time, initially remote role involves co-founding and spinning out a new company focused on methane abatement technologies in solid waste sites, primarily in the global south. You will work closely with the DSV team and leverage innovative methane abatement and measurement technologies. After spin-out, the role is anticipated to be based on the East Coast of the US with approximately 50% international travel. DSV provides significant support, including pre-seed investment and ongoing assistance post-spinout. The successful candidate will possess strong technical and commercial expertise and a proven track record in building and scaling new technologies.

Requirements

• Possess technical and commercial domain expertise
• Have experience in building and scaling new technologies from concept to demonstration
• Have experience in raising funds from early stage/VC and project finance investors
• Have experience living and working in emerging market settings
• Have experience in a leadership role, applying project management and collaborative skills
• Possess a PhD or equivalent industry R&D experience in environmental engineering, atmospheric sciences, landfill gas management, or a related field, with a focus on methane emissions measurement, landfill cover design, and gas mitigation strategies
• Have expertise in quantifying landfill methane flux, optimizing biocover performance, and developing practical abatement solutions for diverse waste site conditions
• Have in-depth knowledge of current approaches and state-of-the-art (SOTA) technologies, constraints, and opportunities for improvement in landfill cover systems, methane collection, methane oxidation strategies, and measurement, monitoring, and verification technologies
• Have deep knowledge of the waste management industry, including landfill operations, regulations, and stakeholder dynamics
• Understand business models, financing, and contracting for methane abatement projects, plus policy, carbon markets, and incentive structures driving landfill methane reduction efforts globally
• Have exceptional command of English

Responsibilities

• Co-found and spin-out a new company focused on deploying innovative methane abatement technologies and measurement approaches in solid waste sites
• Work closely with the DSV team and the current Founder in Residence
• Own the majority stake in the new business post-spinout
• Contribute to the development of early proof-of-concept data
