Summary

Join Autism Speaks Mid-Atlantic team as a remote Fall Intern for a 10–12-week program! This internship provides hands-on experience in nonprofit work, focusing on community engagement, fundraising, participant outreach, event development, and corporate communication. The intern will support two major fundraising walks, research sponsorship prospects, reach out to community organizations and schools to recruit participants, create social media content, and engage with potential sponsors and volunteers. The position requires academic credit eligibility and strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in MS Office Suite and social media is also necessary. The intern will work remotely but maintain constant communication with the team.

Requirements

  • Student interns must receive academic credit (i.e. graduate or under-graduate) sponsored by an accredited institution or require experience for a certification for a college degree
  • Strong organizational skills, follow-up and attention to detail
  • Curious and inquisitive, with a willingness to learn about fundraising, event management and donor outreach
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with a team
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong interpersonal skills/customer service skills
  • Proficient in MS office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook & Social Media
  • Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Mid-Atlantic Chapter’s two major fundraising walks in October and April, and community outreach programs
  • Researching prospects for sponsorship and teams
  • Outreach to local community organizations, running clubs, etc
  • Outreach to colleges, universities and high schools to recruit 5k runners and walk teams
  • Creating Social Media to recognize supporters
  • Community outreach for potential event and campaign sponsors, volunteers, constituents
