Requirements
- Experience: 10+ years in data-intensive software development, including 5+ years in senior engineering leadership roles
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead teams, mentor engineers, and foster a culture of accountability and success
- Strategic Vision: Skill in setting direction, aligning with executives, and executing effectively
- Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and a history of effective cross-functional teamwork
- Problem-Solving: A proactive mindset with a focus on measurable outcomes
- Technical Expertise: Strong background in building data pipelines and data architectures for complex domains
- Technical Foundation: Hands-on engineering experience at a senior level, ideally Staff+
Responsibilities
- Define Strategy: Partner with the Data & Analytics team and other stakeholders to create and execute a comprehensive data strategy that drives decision-making and product innovation
- Own the Data Platform Roadmap: Develop and maintain a clear roadmap for the Data Platform. Collaborate with teams across Data, Content, and Growth to understand their needs, allocate resources strategically, and deliver impactful results
- Lead the Team: Build and mentor a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
- Promote Engineering Excellence: Set high standards, technical best practices, and processes to manage complexity and ensure high-quality, reliable solutions
- Champion Innovation: Adopt modern data technologies to keep Scribd at the forefront of data engineering
- Ensure Data Quality and Compliance: Implement governance practices to maintain data quality, accuracy, and security while meeting regulatory standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Databricks and the larger Spark, Delta Lake ecosystem
- Experience with the medallion architecture and contemporary lakehouse data storage architectures
- Knowledge of streaming platforms like Spark Structured Streaming, Apache Flink, or Apache Beam
- Familiarity with AWS data services (Kinesis, Glue, Athena, etc.)
- Experience working with growth, marketing technology (MarTech), or performance marketing systems to enable data-driven campaigns and analysis
- Understanding of data privacy and compliance standards such as GDPR and CCPA
