Summary

Join Hungryroot as their Director of Data Platform & Governance, leading the centralized data function encompassing data engineering, governance, and BI infrastructure. This critical role reports to the CFO and ensures data integrity, accessibility, and security while building scalable analytics platforms. You will establish centralized data governance, implementing a data dictionary and metric ownership model, creating data access permissions, and formalizing data ownership. Responsibilities also include owning the BI tool, standardizing dashboard design, and empowering users with self-service tools. You will oversee data engineering, platforms, and integration processes, ensuring a single source of truth for dashboards and metrics. Success in this role requires strong collaboration with various teams, including Insights, Product, Finance, and IT, to deliver data products and support company strategies. The position offers a remote-first work environment and a competitive compensation package.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data platform management, or related technical roles
  • 3+ years of people management experience, including leading technical teams
  • Proven track record of building and scaling enterprise data platforms
  • Experience implementing data governance programs in complex organizations, with public company experience a plus
  • Ability to deeply understand business strategy and drivers and translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Deep expertise in modern data stack technologies
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms and their respective data services
  • Familiarity with data modeling, data architecture principles, and metadata management
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and track record of driving change with both technical and business stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Establish Centralized Data Governance
  • Implement and enforce a centralized data dictionary and metric ownership model for new and existing metrics, ensuring business team alignment
  • Create data access permissions, frameworks and compliance controls
  • Formalize data ownership across teams to ensure accountability
  • Drive BI Platform Ownership and Self-Service Analytics
  • Own BI tool (current or replacement) end to end including dashboarding strategy, architecture, governance, and permissions
  • Standardize dashboard/report design and create certified dashboards, while eliminating duplicative and non-conforming versions
  • Empower analyst teams and business users via managed self-service tools
  • Build and Maintain Scalable Data Infrastructure
  • Oversee data engineering, platforms and integration processes
  • Own Databricks and data aggregation
  • Create single source of truth for dashboards and metrics
  • Ensure clear data lineage and ownership
  • Support decentralized Insights delivery via centralized foundation
  • Ensure availability, performance, and security of data assets
  • Enable Organizational Alignment and Strategic Partnership
  • Serve as connected foundation for Insights, Product, Finance, and other business teams
  • Extend best practices to embedded and specialized Analytics functions across the org
  • Support experimentation and robust product analytics
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Insights team to understand analytical requirements and deliver appropriate data products
  • Partner and align with Data Science team on AI and ML-driven company products and strategies
  • Work with business units to understand data needs and translate requirements into technical solutions
  • Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams on broader infrastructure and security matters
  • Participate in cross-functional projects requiring data integration or platform changes

Preferred Qualifications
