Summary
Join Nithio, an AI-driven climate finance platform, as a Data Science Intern! This part-time, 12-week internship (June 9 - August 29, 2025) offers 20-30 hours per week of hands-on experience. You will support the data team in designing, training, and implementing algorithmic models, contribute to project success by collaborating with the team, and make data science accessible by documenting processes. The role requires a strong quantitative background, Python experience, and excellent communication skills. Preference is given to candidates with geospatial analysis experience and relevant sector expertise. The internship is based in GMT+2 timezone.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Master’s program in a related field
- Experience with Python (numpy, pandas, scikit-learn, etc.) and SQL
- Experience or exposure to applied quantitative methods and/or programming
- Training and experience with applied statistics and quantitative modeling (e.g., regression, survival analysis, segmentation, experimentation, and machine learning)
- Familiarity with version control and software engineering fundamentals
- Outstanding communication and writing skills, with the ability to translate complex and technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Excitement about owning projects and thinking in creative ways
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently and within a team
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- All applicants must have permanent work authorization
Responsibilities
- Support the data team in designing, training, testing, and implementing algorithmic models core to Nithio’s products and services
- Contribute to project and product success: Collaborate across the team to provide successful data science solutions for Nithio’s clients, including understanding business requirements and executing project deliverables
- Make data science accessible: Document new processes/tasks and support other team members in understanding and adopting resulting workflows and outputs
- Measure, learn, repeat: Track KPIs for machine learning models and products and identify approaches to improve performance, mitigate risks, and align on business goals
- Effectively communicate complexity: Synthesize, visualize, and communicate results effectively to stakeholders through dashboards, plots, presentations, and reports
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional experience with R
- Demonstrated interest or experience in Africa or emerging markets
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive approach
- Experience in Africa or emerging markets
