Summary
Join Rewiring America's Data Science team as a mission-driven Data Scientist contributing to modeling efforts expanding data models of electrification costs and benefits. You will play a pivotal role in using data to support policy advocacy, community implementation, and creating data tools. This position involves developing and maintaining data-driven models, writing efficient code, communicating model capabilities, collaborating with partner teams, and building data tools. The ideal candidate possesses strong coding experience, subject matter expertise, and a commitment to Rewiring America's mission. You will contribute to projects like developing machine learning models, building solar and storage modeling, and assessing the impact of utility rates on electrification economics. Requirements
- Strong commitment to the mission, policies and goals of Rewiring America
- Bachelorβs or advanced degree in science, technology, engineering, or math; and/or equivalent work experience
- 2+ years of experience working with data, solving progressively more challenging problems
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in a remote-only environment
- Advanced Python skills for data retrieval, cleaning, modeling, and analysis/visualization
- Experience with collaborative code (git) and methodology reviews and ability to provide thoughtful, constructive feedback to peers
- Content knowledge in climate, building electrification, utilities, and/or renewable energy resources
- Demonstrated communication ability across formats with skill in delivering information in a concise and compelling manner to technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to scope work to meet near-term objectives and independently communicate status updates
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain data-driven models (e.g., accurate utility rate modeling, upfront cost modeling), building up subject matter expertise in the relevant domain and data
- Write efficient, accurate, and well-documented code
- Communicate the capabilities and limitations of the models and insights we produce to generate a clear-eyed assessment of what more needs to be done
- Work with partner teams and organizations to understand their challenges and how we can solve them with data
- Collaborate with members of the Product Team to build data tools that internal and external stakeholders can use to make the case for electrification
- Synthesize and distill data and communicate analytical results clearly, across a variety of formats (e.g., presentations to technical and nontechnical audiences)
Preferred Qualifications
- Content knowledge of or related to the utility sector
- Experience with distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Spark, PySpark) for large-scale data processing
- Excellent references demonstrating a strong track record in data science, communication, and teamwork
