Data Scientist

Summary

Join Shippo, a leading shipping platform, as a Data Scientist and play a crucial role in driving data product strategy. You will leverage your analytical expertise to uncover insights from shipping data, identify opportunities for new product features, and translate raw data into actionable insights. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, and Business teams to develop data-driven solutions and present findings to inform product strategy. You will also build and maintain self-serve dashboards, support A/B testing, and communicate analytical findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in data analytics, data science, or a related role
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related STEM field
• Strong proficiency in SQL for querying and manipulating large datasets
• Experience with BI tools (Sigma, Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or similar)
• Practical application of data wrangling, data cleaning, and exploratory data analysis (EDA)
• Ability to translate business questions into structured analytical problems
• Willingness to take on a wide range of tasks, big or small, stepping in wherever needed to drive business success
• Understanding of statistical methods and machine learning techniques to extract deeper insights from data
• Proficiency with Python for data analysis
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Excellent communication skills - able to present findings to technical and non-technical audiences

Responsibilities

• Analyze shipping data to identify opportunities for new product features and improvements
• Investigate trends in carrier performance, delivery times, shipping costs, and user behavior
• Explore patterns in label creation, package tracking, and insurance attachment rates
• Build data-driven prototypes, such as predictive delivery estimates and cost-saving tools
• Present findings clearly to Product and Engineering teams to inform product strategy
• Develop and maintain self-serve dashboards in Sigma for internal teams and customers
• Ensure dashboards are accurate, performant, and user-friendly
• Collaborate with Engineering to improve data pipelines and data models
• Support A/B testing and experiments with statistical analysis
• Interpret experiment results and provide actionable recommendations
• Respond to ad hoc data requests from marketing, sales, and customer success
• Use SQL and Python to analyze data from multiple sources
• Synthesize insights into clear and practical business recommendations
• Collaborate with Data Scientists and Engineers to implement analytics in production
• Communicate analytical findings effectively to technical and non-technical audiences
• Gather business requirements and translate them into data-driven solutions

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Databricks is a plus
