Database Engineer

Summary

Join GoFasti, a Talent-as-a-Service company, as a remote Database Engineer based in Latin America. You will design and architect database solutions, develop technical documentation, present solutions to clients, and provision and configure database instances in AWS RDS and on-premises environments. Responsibilities include implementing high availability and disaster recovery solutions, conducting database upgrades and migrations, performing performance analysis and optimization, and ensuring database security and compliance. The ideal candidate possesses proven experience in database architecture, implementation, and administration across cloud and on-premises environments, strong expertise in AWS RDS (MSSQL and MySQL), and excellent communication skills. The salary range is $2,000-$5,000 USD per month, depending on seniority and skillset. This is an independent contractor position with remote work.

Requirements

• Proven experience in database architecture, implementation, and administration across cloud and on-premises environments
• Strong expertise in AWS RDS, particularly with MSSQL and MySQL, including provisioning, configuration, and performance tuning
• Hands-on experience with on-premises databases such as MSSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB
• Proficiency in database migration strategies and tools, including lift-and-shift to cloud platforms
• Solid understanding of database performance analysis and tuning techniques, including query optimization and index management
• Excellent knowledge of database security principles, including encryption, access controls, and compliance with standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, or SOC 2
• Experience conducting security audits and implementing remediation strategies for vulnerabilities
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation, such as architecture diagrams, implementation guides, and operational procedures

Responsibilities

• Design and architect database solutions based on best practices and client requirements, with a strong emphasis on AWS RDS
• Develop detailed technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, implementation plans, and operational procedures
• Present technical solutions to clients and address their questions and concerns
• Provision, configure, and deploy database instances in AWS RDS (MSSQL, MySQL) and on-premises environments (MSSQL, MySQL, MongoDB)
• Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring business continuity
• Conduct major upgrades of databases with detailed look at application requirements
• Migrate existing databases to new platforms or cloud environments
• Conduct performance analysis and identify database bottlenecks
• Optimize database performance in AWS RDS environments
• Provide expert guidance on database performance best practices
• Implement and enforce database security policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards
• Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments
• Implement data encryption both in transit, and at rest

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience creating and maintaining RDS instances
• Understanding of MongoDB and its query language
• Experience with MSSQL and MySQL in both on-prem and cloud environments
