Design Director

Join Wealthfront as a Design Director to support our Cash area, reporting to the Design Director for Cash and Growth. This leadership role blends strategic vision with empowering a team of designers. Success requires strong people management, communication, and strategic thinking skills. You will focus on improving the quality of work rather than managing a large team. The role involves all phases of product development, from opportunity definition to final product. We are a remote-first team open to US-based candidates. The ideal candidate will have a passion for creating elegant financial products that positively impact people's lives.

Requirements

• 4+ years of design management experience in a software company with design embedded as part of cross-functional product development teams
• 10+ years of product design experience in a consumer software company
• Know when and how to get into the details to drive high-quality decisions
• Be an exceptional product thinker who understands how to drive business impact through design
• Have a proven track record setting a vision for great customer experiences, inspiring others to get behind a vision, translating a vision into a prioritized roadmap, and ensuring your team ships high quality experiences to bring the team’s vision to customers
• Have strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
• Have helped your teams grow in their creative practice by teaching them how to effectively use tools such as user experience methods, innovation, ideation, storytelling, prototyping, design frameworks, concept visualization, problem-framing skills and design principles
• Have hired and grown a diverse team
• Have developed a respectful, inclusive culture where debate is welcomed
• Have managed performance across a spectrum of abilities and contexts
• Be naturally curious and be deeply interested in fintech

Responsibilities

• Drive company impact through supporting 5 senior and staff level product and content designers: staffing, hiring, guiding their work, growing their skills, facilitating career development, cultivating excellent performance, and building an inclusive culture
• Facilitate effective cross-functional collaboration exercises, vision workshops, design sprints etc. to quickly bring clarity and alignment to new opportunities
• Support designers in, and individually partner with PM, engineering, user research, and data science to directly drive clarity on ambiguous opportunities and vision to support area strategy, prioritization, and tradeoffs
• Coordinate a complex roadmap of long-term projects that impact core Wealthfront platform capabilities and involve multiple stakeholders and external partners
• Develop ongoing product initiatives including Instant Withdrawals, Joint Access and Management, and unifying the transfer experience across all Wealthfront products, and more
• Help innovate and scale as a company by partnering with leaders across Wealthfront
• Identify and pursue impactful ideas on everything from what we build to how we work, such that we are able to learn as quickly and efficiently as possible
